INFORMATION FOR TEENS
Teen Driver
Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles requires the following for minors:

Total of 7 Driving Lessons
-
Each Lesson is 1 hour and 40 minutes long
-
50 minutes of driving and 50 minute observing
-
On the last day (7th Lesson) the DMV certified instructor will give you a road test.
If you pass you will get a temporary driver’s License that you can drive with for 6 months/180 days.

Teen DMV-Required Course (Behind-the-Wheel)
DMV Behind-the-Wheel Program — $450
This is the Virginia DMV-required driving course for eligible teens, also known as Behind-the-Wheel training.
Program Details
• 7 driving sessions
• Each session is 50 minutes, as required by the Virginia DMV
• Must be completed with another student under 18 (students observe each other)
• Once completed, the student becomes eligible to receive their driver’s license
After Completion
• Student receives a temporary license valid for 6 months
• The official driver’s license is mailed by the DMV to the student’s home
Eligibility Requirements
• Student must be a minor under 18
• Driver Education must be completed
• A Driver Education Certificate of Completion is required to enroll

Partner Sign-Up (Strongly Recommended)
For the DMV-required course, we encourage students to sign up with a partner whenever possible, ideally:
From the same school, or From the same neighborhood
This allows lessons to begin at the same or nearby location, so time is spent on instruction and driving skills, not traveling between pick-ups. Partner preferences can be shared at the time of sign-up.
