Anyone who is at least 15 years and six months of age may apply to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for a learner's permit. You will be required to take a knowledge and vision test. A learner's permit is required if you are learning to drive on public roads.

The Code of Virginia (§ 22.1-205) requires students and their parents to participate in a 90-minute parent/teen presentation. This presentation is a component of the classroom driver education course. In order to complete the entire program you will need to complete: 90 Minute Parent/Teen Program.
